 BIO-SECURITY UPDATE - FROM PCAWA

"  Pony Club Association of Western Australia have been in contact with the Agricultural Department who have confirmed that a northern suburb vet has recently successfully treated 2 horses for Strangles.

Strangles is not a notifiable disease and there is no current movement lock down.

PCAWA supports WA Horse Councils advice for owners to maintain best practice bio-security measures at all times. Click HERE for more details

We would like to commend Wanneroo Pony Club for taking such decisive and cautious action in cancelling their rally and notifying members of a potential risk.

PCAWA will not be cancelling any events.

Please continue to check our website as updates will be posted should further information come to hand.

Strangles is not usually fatal and in most cases successfully treated with Anti-biotics.  It is advised that you be aware of the symptoms and if at all uncertain about any aspect of your horses health, contact a vet.  If you have not vaccinated your horse regularly for Strangles, it is generally a course of 3 injections to start with.

Wanneroo Horse and Pony Club is located on the corner of
Benmuni & Nicholas Roads, Wanneroo.  Our grounds boast grassed arenas both fenced and open, 2 designated dressage areas, a fenced show jumping area and a cross country course (under construction).  Our clubhouse has a canteen, toilets and a large verandah and a wash bay for your horse!  Natural bushland surrounds the riding grounds and there are large shady trees between the riding areas.  Wanneroo Horse and Pony Club hold several open events throughout the year in all disciplines both official and unofficial.
